Connecting a heating element that is more powerful than allowed may cause the thermostat to overheat and pose a fire hazard. This is relevant both when using underfloor heating systems in bathrooms, as well as in residential or commercial premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solution when the heating element exceeds the capabilities of the thermostat<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connecting a higher power heating element is effectively solved by <strong>magnetic contactor<\/strong> \u2013 a relay designed for use in high-current circuits. This solution ensures reliable <strong>electric floor heating systems<\/strong> performance and increases safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connection principle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Thermostat phase output<\/mark><\/strong> (L Load terminal) is used to energize the contactor coil via the \u201cA2\u201d terminal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thermostat neutral output<\/strong> (N Load terminal) wire is connected to the contactor coil via the \u201cA1\u201d terminal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The power phase wire is connected via the contactor input to terminal &#034;1&#034;, and the output from the contactor to <strong>electric heating element<\/strong> output through terminal &#034;2&#034;.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multi-pole contactor \u2013 a solution for larger heating projects<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If one <a href=\"https:\/\/devinera.com\/en\/thermostats\/\">thermostat<\/a> controls multiple heating elements, e.g. more than one <strong>electric floor heating cable<\/strong> or <strong>infrared film section<\/strong>, required <strong>multipole contactor<\/strong>It ensures that the system will operate safely and efficiently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Several <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">phases<\/mark> The power wires connect via contactor terminals 1, 3 and 5, and the corresponding <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">phases<\/mark> exits to <strong>heating elements<\/strong> \u2013 via terminals 2, 4 and 6.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the power of the connected heating elements does not exceed the rated current of the contactor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example: if five 4,700 W units are controlled <strong>electric floor heating mats<\/strong>, for a 3-pole 63 A contactor, two heaters can be connected to two poles and one to the remaining one.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/devinera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Screenshot-2024-11-26-at-13.36.27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devinera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Screenshot-2024-11-26-at-13.36.27.png 601w, https:\/\/devinera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Screenshot-2024-11-26-at-13.36.27-300x209.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Proper connection \u2013 a guarantee of safety<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Neutral wire<\/strong> must not be returned through the thermostat.
